Role summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented Merchant Risk Monitoring Analyst to join our Checkout Risk team. This role is responsible for monitoring, analyzing, and mitigating risks associated with merchant portfolios in our payment processing ecosystem. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in protecting the organization from financial losses while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and card scheme rules.

What you’ll do

Risk Monitoring & Analysis

  1. Monitor merchant transaction patterns and behaviors to identify potential risks, fraud, or suspicious activities
  2. Analyze merchant performance metrics, chargeback ratios, and transaction velocity to assess risk levels
  3. Conduct regular portfolio reviews and risk assessments for existing merchant accounts
  4. Investigate and respond to alerts generated by automated risk monitoring systems
  5. Ensure adherence to card scheme regulations (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover)
  6. Collaborate with fraud prevention teams on merchant-related investigations
  7. Stay current with industry regulations and best practices in merchant acquiring
  8. Maintain documentation and audit trails for all risk decisions
  9. Prepare detailed risk analysis reports and recommendations for management review
  10. Work closely with Sales, Customer Care and other internal teams.
  11. Recommend changes to ensure accuracy and efficiency of Onboarding processes

Merchant Account Management

  1. Conduct enhanced due diligence on high-risk merchant categories and geographies
  2. Coordinate with underwriting teams to establish appropriate risk controls and limits
  3. Manage merchant account holds, suspensions, and terminations based on risk assessments

Chargeback & Dispute Management

  1. Monitor and analyze chargeback trends and merchant dispute ratios
  2. Investigate excessive chargeback scenarios and implement corrective actions
  3. Work with merchants to develop chargeback mitigation strategies
  4. Track and report on chargeback monitoring program effectiveness

Who you are

Education & Experience

  1. Bachelor’s degree in finance, Business, Economics, Risk Management or related field
  2. Minimum 5+ years of experience in risk management, fraud prevention, or financial services
  3. Experience in merchant acquiring risk, payment processing, or e-commerce preferred
  4. Knowledge of card scheme regulations and compliance requirements

Technical Skills

  1. Proficiency in risk monitoring tools and transaction analysis software
  2. Advanced Excel skills for data analysis and reporting
  3. Experience with SQL or other database query languages preferred
  4. Familiarity with fraud detection systems and case management tools
  5. Understanding of payment processing flows and merchant acquiring operations

  3. Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
  4. Excellent English – both verbal and written.
  5. Excellent Mandarin and Cantonese – both verbal and written.
  6. Understanding of financial crimes and fraud typologies
  7. Understanding of various business models and industry risk factors
  8. Knowledge of fraud typologies and risk indicators
  9. Understanding of card scheme rules and regulations
  10. Experience with specific merchant categories (e-commerce, retail, high-risk industries)
  11. Experience with automated underwriting systems and risk scoring models
